Spirit Aeronautics Relocates to Larger Facility

Expanding Market Reach with improved hangar facilities

(Columbus, OH) November 2, 2020 - Spirit Aeronautics has recently completed a relocation to a larger, more capable hangar facility to serve their clients more efficiently and expand their market reach. Located at Signature Flight Support's FBO at KCMH, this upgrade into a 1st class hangar facility will enable the team's expansion into a higher level of aircraft maintenance and world-class avionics support.

Rick Ochs, the CEO, stated, "We are keeping true to our growth plans established years prior in moving into much larger hangar accommodations in 2020. This move will allow us to operate more efficiently, saving our customers downtime and reducing costs. We are fortunate to be able to use the current economic environment to reduce our overhead costs while increasing our capabilities for aircraft maintenance and avionics systems modifications operations."

Operating in a hangar facility with over 120,000 square feet of hangar space featuring very tall and wide opening doors, we can accommodate aircraft such as Gulfstream, Bombardier, Globals, and CRJ/ERJ’s.  The increased space expands aircraft maintenance and modification services to a broader range of clients.

March 10, 2020 - Spirit Avionics Ltd., operating as Spirit Aeronautics is celebrating our 20th year anniversary of serving our clients. We are a team of highly skilled and dedicated aerospace professionals providing high-level expertise to business aircraft owners and operators.

February 14, 2020  Spirit Aeronautics is pleased to announce that our team has been awarded a new firm fixed price contract supporting the United States Air Force. The project calls for Spirit to provide complete technical support services including all engineering, kitting and aircraft modifications in 2 active duty E-9A Widget aircraft.  The work which will include all Ground & Flight testing and airworthiness certification services will be performed in Columbus, Ohio. The program is expected to be completed by mid-2020.  This award is the result of a competitive, small-business acquisition and is a sub-contracted through the Contractor Logistics Support team, ATSA based in Oklahoma City, OK.

Spirit Aeronautics has previously modified these same aircraft almost a decade earlier with new cockpit technologies to enhance the aircraft’s safe operations. Spirit’s CEO Rick Ochs states, “We are honored to be able to provide our services again to the E-9A community and the U.S. Air Force. These modifications will increase the Mission Readiness Rate by enhancing the reliability and functionality of the onboard communications systems of these high value assets for Air Combat Command.”

November 19, 2019, Spirit Aeronautics, a world-wide aviation service provider, is proud to announce the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) issuance of a Radio Repairman certificate to Jeff Thogmartin (J.T.).  J.T. has become one of the earliest recipients of the FAA Repairman certification through a new FAA policy recognizing ASTM’s National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT) Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification.

Provided by ASTM’s NCATT program, the AET certification, with one additional endorsement, has been FAA approved as an Alternative Means of Compliance in lieu of the FAA’s Repair Station rule for 18 months experience. The NCATT certifications demonstrate the knowledge base of the advanced aerospace technician and promote integrity, safety, and professionalism in the aerospace workforce.

Rick Ochs, CEO of Spirit Aeronautics stated, “We are immensely proud of J.T.’s accomplishments in his short time with Spirit Aeronautics. He has certainly proven his abilities and honest values.” Enhancing workforce development was the driving force behind this new initiative. The technician shortage has been a challenge for shops across the U.S.  “Without the support from the FAA and AEA driving this new policy initiative, we would struggle to fill much needed technician openings,” stated Ochs.
